Family is “True North” in this program for kids and parents

Adventure Guides helps build strong relationships between parents/caregivers and kids ages 5-12. In the program, groups gather throughout the year for a variety of nature-based activities in an effort for male adults to develop lifelong memories and bonds with their child.

  • Ages: Kids ages 5-12, plus an adult (usually male) that is a parent or caregiver
  • Location: Windward Y
  • Fee: $50 per participant, per year

History of the program

Adventure Guides was started in 1920 by Harold S. Keitner, Joe Friday, and William H. Hefelfinger at the YMCA in St. Louis. It was initially a father/son program, but after World War II, it expanded to include all children.
