PRIMARY PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for administering fitness assessments, fitness orientations and creating and facilitating individualized fitness programs for paying members. Works under the general supervision of the Healthy Lifestyles Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

  • Collects all required paperwork or documentation including: current ParQ, payment receipt, doctor’s note (if required) and personal training agreement prior to training clients.
  • Tracks sessions via personal training agreement, including collecting client’s signature each time a session is completed.
  • Provides quality customer service by communicating in a timely manner with clients via client’s preferred way of communication (email, phone, text, etc).
  • Creates a personalized workout regimen based on the goals of the client, assessment of client’s current fitness levels & amount of sessions client has purchased.
  • Provides a copy of the personalized workout to client, if requested.
  • Provides general health and wellness education.
  • Provides only general nutrition information, unless otherwise qualified to do so (ie. Registered Dietitian).
  • Does not promote any supplements.
  • Completes and submits weekly personal training log to supervisor.
  • Communicates with client regarding the fitness facility, programs, events and pool and ensures client is following facility guidelines while working with client.
  • Assists in providing additional coverage for the fitness facility when necessary.
  • Services member’s needs at the membership desk when required.
  • Responds to and provides CPR/First Aid in medical emergency situations and completes and submits required incident/accident reports within 24 hours to supervisor.
  • Completes & maintains required certifications (i.e. CPR/AED, First Aid, Y online
  • Healthy Lifestyle trainings, Personal Trainer, etc.).
  • Dresses neatly and professionally in appropriate staff attire, including Y staff shirt and name tag.
  • Adheres to all Child Abuse Prevention guidelines including but not limited to:
    • Adhere to policies, SOP’s, and handbooks related to boundaries with youth.
    • Attends and participates in all required abuse risk management training.
    • Adhere to standards & procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
    • Comply with the YMCA and State of Hawaii abuse reporting requirements.
    • Ensure that youth are closely monitored, and routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker rooms and bathrooms), etc.
 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Training & Experience:
Level 1-3 Required:

  • National personal trainer certification (ACSM, NSCA, ACE, NASM, etc)
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • TB test.
  • Y online Healthy Lifestyles trainings (completed within 3 months of hire)

Preferred:

  • Experience in health/fitness or related field.

 

Level 4 Required:

  • National personal trainer certification (ACSM, NSCA, ACE, NASM, etc)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • TB test.
  • Y online Healthy Lifestyles trainings (completed within 3 months of hire)

Preferred:

  • Experience in health/fitness or related field.

 

Skills/Knowledge: 
Level 1-4:

  • Extensive knowledge of health and wellness.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of fitness program design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of conducting fitness assessments
  • Knowledge and ability to engage members in specialized health & wellness programming (ie workshops, assessments, seminars, etc).
