PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Our Hawaii Eco-Tour Guides typically work with environmentally-minded travelers and help educate them on Hawaii’s culture, land, animals and overall environment. The guides educate guests on how to take positive steps in sustainability and assist them in the removal of invasive plant species as well as the planting and education of native plant species.

Our tour is typically 10am to 1pm. Guides are responsible for setting up and tearing down all equipment used for the tour. During the tour, guides will take visitors on an interactive hike up Nihoa Gulch with a crystal cave as the final stopping point. The second portion of the tour will take place at or near the beach. Guides are expected to educate guests on cultural history and talk through anything they may see on the beach. The guide is also responsible for leading activities that include crafts or cultural games. Our guides require strong communication skills and will need to be up to date on current environmental issues and promote the mission of the YMCA.

The Eco-Tour Coordinator will be responsible for supervising the Eco-Tour Guides and ensuring that we are delivering a high level of service. The Coordinator is responsible for conducting periodic evaluations and reports to the Senior Program Director.
