Position Summary

In alignment with the mission and vision of the YMCA of Honolulu, the Senior Program Director collaborates closely with fellow YMCA team members under the leadership of the Program Executive Director of Teens & Young Adults. This pivotal role assumes primary responsibility for the management and dynamic development of our afterschool and summer teen programs spanning the entire Association. Tasked with ensuring the seamless delivery of top-tier programs and services, the Senior Program Director operates with precision, adhering to established policies and procedures while strategically advancing the Association's overarching goals. Key duties encompass the cultivation of a thriving team culture through effective leadership and professional development, driving program retention and expansion initiatives, and adeptly managing reports and expenses. Additionally, the Senior Director plays a central role in fostering and fortifying invaluable relationships and partnerships with educational institutions, colleges, and community organizations, thus facilitating the design and implementation of impactful opportunities at the Y.

Essential Functions

  • Drives program quality, ensuring all programs are always enhancing participant experience.
  • Direct oversight of funding that directly supports Association teen programs
  • Collaborate with department leads, branch executives, and other organizational leaders to effectively execute programs
  • Provide direct leadership of the management, implementation, and accountability of Association program grants and funding that supports teen programs
  • Works with the aligned Program Executive Director in establishing annual budgets.
  • Ensure quality and accountability of teen programs to meet Youth Development and YMCA Safety requirements, trainings, policies and procedures
  • Seek and secure additional funding that supports teen programs
  • Work with the Program Executive Director to ensure the Association’s strategic goals are met
  • Provide leadership and support to improving and enriching signature teen program offerings via ongoing quality improvements and innovations for the Association
  • Works strategically with community partnerships on all youth development, healthy living and social responsibility programs and initiatives.
  • Willing and able to support other departments as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College degree in Social Services, Recreation, Education, or related field; or 4 years equivalent in related work experience.
  • 3+ years of related experience with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement focus area programs.
  • Excellent skills in staff supervision and development, budget analysis, communication, and human relations.
  • 2+ years of experience in working with teens in an afterschool setting is preferred.
  • Ability to motivate individuals, lead a team, and conduct training.
  • Ability to work with parents, children, and staff of diverse ethnic populations.
  • Adult and child CPR or CPR/PR, First Aid, and AED Certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Bus Driver’s certification required within 3 months of hire, which include a valid driver’s license and clean traffic abstract.
  • Ability to travel from one location to another in a timely location required.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Windows 10 and above, Canva, preferred.

This position and its pay are dependent on the availability of funds and continuation of the contracted program. The current contract provides programming for June 2024 - July 2025 with the likely possibility of extension for an additional two years (until July 2027).
